Firefly III (API) update for October 2026

Hello everybody!

I bet you didn't expect to hear from me so soon. Tough luck! I just want to share a small API update with you that will be part of the next release. That release should go out this weekend.

Changes

In Firefly III v6.7.8 you can expect the following to be different.

  1. You can give categories a color, like FF0000 (no #). Firefly III doesn't use this, but it may be useful in your app and now supported natively. If you're interested, I will expand this to other objects.
  2. There is a new release-notes endpoint where you can find a summary of the current release changes. Optional argument for other versions, it will return null values when no notes are available.
  3. I forgot to document the "unused" field in the delete data endpoint, so this is added now.

To visualize all changes I ran a diff against v6.7.6, and you can find it online.
